Sony Honda Mobility Begins Trial Production of AFEELA 1 in Ohio
Tokyo, January 2, 2026 – Sony Honda Mobility Inc. (SHM) has announced the start of trial production for its first model, AFEELA 1, at Honda’s East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio. This marks a major milestone in preparing for mass production and future deliveries scheduled for California later in 2026.

To ensure the highest standards, SHM has established a dedicated Quality Gate facility in East Liberty. This inspection hub introduces unique, multi-faceted checks beyond Honda’s rigorous quality processes.
• Function Inspection: Verifies AFEELA’s advanced intelligent features, including infotainment systems, connectivity, and sensor performance.
• Exterior Inspection: Ensures flawless design continuity, reflection uniformity, and precise color accuracy.
The Quality Gate also acts as a feedback loop, sending data back to SHM’s design and Honda’s production teams to continuously improve manufacturing quality.
